There are reading programs for children in some of the countries in the world and one who created this is the University of Kansas which is also known as the KU. On the information given about this that there are 21,000 children in Kansas that participated on this program. And during the school year of 2009 up to 2010 as the program of the University of Kansas – reading programs for children there are 20,828 Kansas' children that already read 12 books per year. There are students who are participated on 115 elementary and more that 100 middle schools in their districts. For 64th year of the University of Kansas, they are still continuing this reading program as part of the learning process of those young ones. Being separate from the regular curriculum of the school, these reading programs for children is open to those students of Kansas from grade 2 to 6. This program is design to help all those teachers, the parents and those other adults who encourage those students to experience the different kind of literature. On this program, the grade 4 and above are reading the books about the fiction, fairy tales and folk tales, poetry, history and places, and biography.

The rewards that you may get from the school year of 2010 to 2011 are listed below:
-> This certificate is signed by Chancellor in the University of Kansas that is being awarded to all students who fulfill their reading program in the first year.
-> This is being awarded to students who at least read the minimum requirements of 12 books.
-> This is being awarded to students who read 24 books or more.
-> This is being awarded to students who have got four seals.
-> This is being awarded to students who read the history of Kansas that is being sponsored by the Kansas State Historical Society.
-> This is being awarded to students who read six books or more about the field of life sciences.
